According to Reuters, 45 million Americans do not have dental insurance, which may be preventing them from receiving proper oral care. In response to this growing problem, Bernard Sanders who is part of the Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging as part of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, issued a report on the U.S. dental health crisis.
WorlDental.com published an article on the findings of the report. Some of the key points made by Sanders are that currently, 47 million Americans live in areas where it is difficult to get access to dental care and a quarter of adults over 65 are experiencing a total lack of teeth.
Furthermore, in 2009, the number of emergency dental visits nationwide rose by 16 percent from 2006 numbers.
"It is actually a much cheaper solution if dental care services are made affordable and accessible to all these people who need them, than having to support outrageously high costs implied by complex dental surgeries and expensive medication in the emergency room," stated the news source.
Luckily, there are many discount dental plans available to help the uninsured gain access to the care they need.
