Residents of Ohio may have trouble gaining access to oral care, depending on what part of the state they live in. Public News Service recently reported on findings made by Ohio Department of Health, which show that the number of areas in the state with a shortage of dental services increased by 10.
This means that there are now 71 areas in Ohio where residents are struggling to get regular access to a dental health provider. Janis Sunderhaus, chief executive officer of Health Partners of Western Ohio, told the news source that there needs to be more mid-level dental practitioners that can provide basic care in areas where there are few dentists.
"By making sure that we're maximizing all types of providers, it makes it more cost-effective and cheaper to deliver care when people need it - not when they've got a huge abscess and we have to go in and do multiple, expensive treatments," said Sunderhaus, quoted by the information provider.
ShareCare.com reports that not getting dental treatment can lead to a multitude of health problems, since infections or bacteria problems that start in the mouth can spread throughout the body. Individuals who are struggling to pay for oral care should consider looking into discount dental plans, which can help them gain access to treatments at an affordable price.
