People seem to have a million excuses for not going to the dentist, and few of them are valid. Dental health checkups should be made a priority, right along with visiting any other healthcare professional. Recently, the Green Bay Press Gazette spoke to Glen Stream, president of the American Academy of Family Physicians about the preventative health screenings that people should get in 2012, among them was a trip to the dentist.
"People get busy, and if they feel well, they go about their business thinking they are healthy," said Stream, quoted by the news source.
Just because a person feels healthy, doesn't mean they necessarily are. It's important to go to the dentist for cleanings before there is a problem, since waiting can lead to costly procedures.
Many people may not be going to the dentist because they don't have dental insurance. According to Reuters, 45 million Americans are lacking access to oral care. However, there are many discount dental plans that can help people get the care they need at a price they can afford.
