It's important for everyone to maintain proper oral care, regardless of their age. Children learn their dental health habits from their parents, so adults should be sure to teach their children about the importance of brushing, flossing and visiting the dentist regularly. Recently, the Tampa Tribune ran an article explaining the importance of keeping a child's teeth healthy.
The news source spoke to Pedro Lense, senior dentist with the Hernando County Health Department, who said statistics highlight the need to increase awareness of the importance of maintain a child's oral health.
"Healthy dental habits should be developed early," said Lense, quoted by the news source. "For children, dental decay is 20 times more common than diabetes, seven times more common than hay fever and fives times more common than asthma for children age 5 to 17."
Lense added that parents need to monitor their children's brushing habits until they are sure that the kids know to brush correctly for at least two minutes.
Colgate.com says that most children brush their teeth for less than a minute. It's important to make sure a child is doing a thorough brushing job, or they might end up with a lifetime of bad habits.
