The year is coming to a close, and many people are beginning to come up with New Year's resolutions. The California Dental Association recently released a statement encouraging people to add "improving oral health" to their list of goals for 2012. According to the organization, focusing on dental care is something that is important from the whole family, and people of all ages.

Lindsey Robinson, D.D.S., reminded people that brushing, flossing and visiting the dentist regularly are three simple ways to help ensure oral health. She recommended introducing children to healthy dental habits at a young age to encourage a lifetime of proper care.

Next, she dentist said that diet can play a major role in both dental and overall health.

"And try to limit the number of between-meal snacks. When you do reach for a snack, choose low-sugar, nutrient-rich foods, like raw fruits and vegetables, milk, cheese or plain yogurt," said Robinson.
