The American Academy of Pediatrics is teaming up with Voices for America's Children and Pew Children's Dental Campaign to launch a new program to raise awareness of the importance of taking care of the health of children's teeth. These organization plan to hold a teleconference on Nov. 15 to explain what their new initiative will entail.
This move was inspired by the fact that 45 million Americans lack dental insurance, which can lead to many children being left behind when it comes to oral care.
"The Campaign for Dental Health (CDH) will provide reliable, scientific information about oral health and fluoridation, a strategy shown to prevent tooth decay. One of CDH's educational tools will be a new web portal called iLikeMyTeeth.org," said an official statement from the organizations.
DentistryIQ.com states that children's oral hygiene is extremely important to their overall health. The site recommends beginning proper dental care before a baby's first tooth comes in by wiping an infants gums with a clean damp cloth after feeding them to avoid a build up of bacteria in their mouth.
