MetLife donates funds to help improve dental health in children
Updated: 10/26/2011 11:00:05 PM

The funds were given to Children Recently, a national survey came out that showed that most American toddlers have never been to the dentist. This highlighted the need for greater awareness efforts aimed teaching parents the importance of taking proper care of their child's teeth. In response to this, the MetLife Foundation has given out over $1 million in grants to organizations that plan to encourage better oral health in children.

"Developing good oral health and hygiene habits is a vital part of a comprehensive approach to ensuring overall health care," said Dennis White, president and CEO of MetLife Foundation.

The funds were given to Children's Health Fund and the Sesame Workshop, two groups that cater to children and families in need of dental care.

The Sesame Workshop has created a bilingual program to educate both English and Spanish speaking children on brushing their teeth and other healthy habits. The Children's Health Fund works to provide oral care to homeless children through mobile dental clinics.

Hopefully, with this money, these two organizations will be able to help ensure that no child, regardless of income, goes without the care they need.
