No one should have to sacrifice oral health because of finances, but according to a survey by Oral Health America (OHA), a total of 35 percent of people who regularly visit the dentist have cut back due to money problems. In response to this, OHA and the Dental Trade Alliance (DTA) assembled on Capitol Hill to address the concerns regarding dental health in America.
"We have an obligation to make sure that our communities, business leaders, policy makers, healthcare providers and schools are committed to the oral health of our nation," said Gary Price, president and CEO of the DTA. "All Americans need to be able to access dental care and understand its importance in our daily lives."
Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland said in a statement that he hopes being part of a minority group will no longer mean having to struggle to get proper dental care.
The efforts of these organizations will hopefully help educate people on the importance of dental health, while encouraging politicians to provide better access to dentists for those who are struggling to afford basic medical care.
