Since many individuals only visit their dentist two times annually, there are a number of oral health-related questions that may crop up in between those appointments. Moreover, some people find that they forget to address certain concerns during their visits because they become preoccupied with treatments or conversations on other topics.
For this reason, Arkansas dentist Josh Leal recently appeared on THV-11 News to answer some viewers' dental questions.
The first inquiry was in regard to the age at which parents should start taking their babies to the dentist. Leal explained that infants should be examined by a dental professional by the age of 1, but parents should also bring their babies with them to their own appointments to encourage familiarity with oral healthcare settings.
Another viewer asked if switching to diet soda would improve his or her dental health. Leal said that while the reduction in sugar consumption may be beneficial, diet soda still contains high amounts of acid, which can promote cavities.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a total of 23 percent of adults have untreated dental caries.
