As more U.S. children continue living with little to no access to dental insurance, some dentists are taking matters into their own hands.
Dr. Barry Steinberg from the Greene County area in New York recently made headlines with his pledge to take his practice on the road, the Daily Mail reports.
The service is meant for elementary school children and will provide them with basic dental care, which is more than what the kids may have access to.
"We'll be treating children from the school system ... lending our first-class facility to people who normally don’t have access to dental care," Steinberg told the news provider.
While providing young children access to dental care through unique ways is important, a traveling dentist isn't a substitute for dental insurance or getting routine dental care.
Children with poor dental health are more susceptible to tooth decay and cavities, conditions that can lead to serious ailments as they age. The American Dental Association recommends people brush twice daily and floss to maintain a healthy mouth, as well as visiting a dentist.
