To help those who are in desperate need of dental care, some clinics provide free services, but only for a limited amount of time. For example, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that the Flagler Free Clinic in Florida recently provided free care for one day, which it does each month.
According to the news provider, about 10 people are scheduled per month for tooth extractions and other serious dental problems. There are almost always 30 individuals on the waiting list to receive the free care.
Patrick Johnson, administrator for the Flagler Health Department, told the news source that two dentists currently volunteer their time to the clinic and they only get paid for half of the day. He added that two more dentists are in line to help starting next year and that hopefully, the clinic will then be able to open twice per month.
In fact, Johnson told the newspaper that the free clinic may reduce the number of teeth extractions
thanks to the availability of dental care. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 25 percent of U.S. adults who are over 60 years old have lost all of their natural teeth.
Fortunately, there are affordable ways that individuals can find low-cost dental coverage for themselves and their families.
