Individuals who suffer from oral problems, like tooth decay or gum disease, may experience significant amounts of pain and discomfort that affects their daily routine. However, some dentists are volunteering their time to help those who are in need of dental services.
In the U.S., there are approximately 53 million adults and children who have untreated tooth decay, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Dentistry From the Heart, a national non-profit organization, recently announced it will provide free treatments for one day for New Jersey residents. Patients will be able to receive fillings, cleanings and tooth extractions.
Mayra Modesto-Garrido, one of the the volunteer dentists involved, said that in today's society, there is a great number of individuals who need oral care "but have no means to afford them - whether they're out of a job or just don't have dental insurance."
People will be treated on a first-come first-serve basis and only the first 150 who show up will be able to receive the free care. Fortunately, there are low-cost, affordable ways in which individuals who have dental problems can receive proper dental care, without waiting in line.
