Tooth decay is a common problem among people of all ages and is the most common chronic illness in children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Some dental experts are providing tips to help educate the public on the importance of proper oral hygiene.
John E. Dodes, a New York dentist, wrote in the Osceola Sentinel Tribune that visiting the dentists twice per year is one of the best ways to prevent future oral problems and maintain good dental health.
For a whiter smile, Dodes indicates that celery, carrots and apples all act as natural stain removers and can restore enamel in the teeth.
He added that while brushing one's teeth is essential for good oral hygiene, individuals can use mouthwash to eliminate bad breath and clean areas that a toothbrush can easily miss. According to the expert, there is also a right and wrong way for a person to brush their teeth. Individuals should ask their dentists for help and learn the proper techniques.
Individuals who lack insurance can seek low-cost care to improve their oral health. Discount dental plans provide affordable coverage for individuals and their families.
