Grants help increase access to dental care for children Oral hygiene may be essential for an overall clean bill of health. Now, some grants are being awarded so that children who do not have regular access to dental care can receive treatment.

The Fairfield County Community Foundation recently announced it will provide a $20,000 grant to the Greater Norwalk Dental Society (GNDS), according to Westport Now. With this funding, children in Connecticut will be eligible to receive free oral care for the month of November.

Jenny Matthews, president of the GNDS, told the news provider that "dental health is an important part of children's overall healthcare." She added that the organization hopes that kids who do not have insurance "will take advantage of the opportunity."

Approximately 65 uninsured children are expected to receive both preventative and restorative treatments each week of the event and their parents must register them beforehand.

Children whose dental problems, like cavities or tooth decay, that go untreated may experience pain or discomfort and also have trouble paying attention in school, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Parents who lack insurance for themselves and their children can find low-cost oral care. Discount dental plans provide affordable coverage for these individuals and their families.
