Tooth decay affects more kids in the U.S. than any other chronic disease, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. Teaching young children to have good dental habits could help to prevent oral health problems in the future. However, some parents may find that it is difficult to pay for regular exams and check-ups for their kids. To make care more accessible, some organizations are holding free events.
The White Lake Beacon reports that dental professionals in Muskegon County, Michigan will hold a fair for children to help improve access to oral care at the end of this month. The event is set to go on for three hours.
Volunteers from the Muskegon District Dental Society, along with students from dental programs at Ferris State University and Grand Rapids Community College, will provide screenings and fluoride treatments for the children.
Volunteers will educate families about important dental health issues, according to the news source. Parents will also receive recommendations that will help them to provide their children with improved dental care.
Parents who have difficulty paying for oral treatments for themselves and their children can find low-cost dental care through discount dental plans.
