Wisdom teeth may cause problems if they are not removed
Updated: 10/19/2010 3:00:19 PM

Wisdom teeth may cause problems if they are not removed It may be even more important for young adults to have their wisdom teeth removed earlier in life. New research conducted by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMA) found that this procedure could eliminate the risk of developing health problems later in life.

The experts suggest that wisdom teeth do not necessarily cause problems when they first present themselves but are hard to clean. As a result, the research found that this can lead to the growth of bacteria in the mouth and create several health risks that include preterm birth or cardiovascular disease.

In the findings, the AAOMS also discovered that approximately 80 percent of young adults who initially had healthy wisdom teeth eventually developed dental problems.

The researchers found that there are benefits to having teeth pulled at an earlier age. Young adults will likely experience less pain and have a faster recovery than older patients. It may also be more expensive to monitor wisdom teeth for a longer period of time rather than have them extracted earlier in life.

Both old and young adults can seek low-cost coverage in order to take care of their wisdom teeth. Discount dental plans provide affordable plans for individuals of all ages and their families.
