As Halloween approaches and children across the country get ready to eat more candy than usual, there are programs being implemented in order to promote good oral habits.
For example, The Halloween Candy Buy Back Program, which is being sponsored by various dentists' offices' throughout the U.S., was recently introduced to kids. During this event, children are allowed to bring their candy to their dentist and will receive $1 for every pound that has not been opened.
The goal is to reduce the number of children who are affected by tooth decay by eating candy.
The program will also help members of the armed forces who are currently serving. The treats will be sent to Operation Gratitude, which will package the candy as well as other goods, to be sent to American troops who are overseas.
This buy back event is set to be held during the days that follow Halloween at dentists' offices' across the country.
There are also other ways to prevent tooth decay, such as brushing and flossing daily as well as regular dental exams, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Individuals who are seeking low-cost care for themselves and their children can find affordable coverage through discount dental plans.
