Tooth decay is a preventable disease that affects half of all children aged 12 to 15 in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. One way to reduce the risk for this problem is to encourage kids to eat healthy and brush between meals.
Now, some organizations are providing young children with the knowledge they need in order to keep a clean mouth. Dental hygienists and assistants from Dental Health Arlington (DHA) recently visited nearly 30 elementary schools in the Arlington, Texas area to educate students about the importance of proper oral care.
DHA participants taught the kids how to brush their teeth and take care of their gums. Treatments, such as sealants, were also offered to those who were in need. The goal was to promote positive dental health choices among children through a fun and relaxed environment.
The DHA hopes that if kids get used to the idea of oral care, it could reduce the risk of developing other problems such as dental anxiety.
It may be important for parents to seek proper treatment for their children, as they could have other health issues in the future. Discount dental plans provide affordable, low-cost care for these individuals and their families.
