Children who are in kindergarten through third grade will participate in tours at the National Museum of Dentistry this month, according to the Daily Athenaeum. Hosted by the West Virginia University (WVU) School of Dentistry, the event is for kids who are enrolled at schools in the WVU area.
College students will guide younger kids through educational learning stations, through which they will build a model tooth and learn how to properly brush and floss their teeth, according to the news source. Information will also be provided on how tobacco and eating healthy can directly effect an individuals' overall health.
Up to 150 elementary school kids will participate at the exhibit each day for the remainder of the month. Teachers were also given worksheets as well as other information pertaining to oral health, which they can share with the children, the newspaper reports.
Although cavities affect more kids in the U.S. than any other disease, this problem can be prevented through proper oral hygiene, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
