Organizations team-up to increase awareness of dental health

Organizations team-up to increase awareness of dental health The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that problems such as cavities can be prevented by practicing good dental hygiene. This includes brushing teeth and flossing daily. Now, organizations are partnering to raise awareness about oral health among adults and children.

For example, Oral Health America (OHA) and Plackers have teamed up for OHA's Fall for Smiles campaign. In a survey sponsored by the two groups, nearly 80 percent of parents believe that children should floss their teeth daily. However, only 30 percent of kids reported flossing.

Fall for Smiles is aimed at parents in the hopes that their children will practice better dental habits. This campaign will encourage families to talk about oral health with their kids, including how to incorporate flossing and brushing into their daily routine.

Beth Truett, president and CEO of OHA, said that the campaign will show "how important it is to brush and floss daily for oral and systemic health." The groups are also promoting the importance of regular dental visits.

Individuals who are seeking low-cost care may benefit from discount dental plans, which offer affordable coverage.
