As a result of economic hardships, many people have lost their jobs and their insurance benefits. Healthcare officials have found that individuals who are in this position often skip visits to the dentist in order to save money.
In an effort to assist these patients and others who have little dental insurance, the Free Medical Clinic of Greater Cleveland has been hiring more dental care staff, according to The News-Herald. In fact, clinic representatives report that this center is providing treatment for approximately 140 patients per week.
In addition to offering a variety preventatives services, the clinic has partnered with a local dentist who is a specialist in applying veneers.
Increasing the availability of free dental options will help many people who are unable to see a dentist on a regular basis. In 2007, only 63 percent of Americans aged 18 to 64 years visited a dentist, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report.
Samir Ridha, health director at the clinic, told the news source that "we're now helping more patients and offering a wider array of dental services, including full-mouth X-rays, complete exams, cleaning, deep scaling, fillings, extraction and emergency care."
In addition to free dental care services, individuals with little or no dental insurance can benefit from signing up for a discount dental plan.
