In an effort to make dental care more accessible to people residing in Texas, The Effort, a Sacramento nonprofit organization is leading a fund raising efforts to help a local health center build a new pediatric dental addition to their existing facility.
Once the new dental wing is constructed, the center's employees and volunteers will treat low-income families with little or dental insurance, according to the Sacramento Bee. With one dentist who specializes in pediatric treatment already working at the center, clinic officials hope to hire at least one new professional.
These facilities can contribute to helping families nationwide won't be able to receive dental care treatments on a regular basis. This year, approximately 7,600 people in the U.S. will die from complications linked to poor dental care, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Petra Stanton, director of health program development at the nonprofit organization, told the news source that "there are a lot of children in Sacramento that are not getting regular dental care because they are having trouble accessing it." She added that the new clinic will "provide services to children, young adults [aged 21 years and younger] and pregnant women."
In addition to these centers, families with little or no dental insurance can also benefit from researching discount dental plans. By signing up with one of these programs, patients can receive regular dental care.
