Harlem health and dental care clinic to be built in place of recently closed hospital

Harlem health and dental care clinic to be built in place of recently closed hospital Despite the closing of North General Hospital in Harlem, healthcare representatives are working towards opening a walk-in clinic for area residents. In addition to providing patients with medical treatment, the new center will also offer free dental care for underserved individuals, according to the New York Times.

Upon completing the clinic, which will be run by the Institute For Family Health, state and local representatives report that approximately 80,000 people with little or no health and dental insurance coverage will be able to receive treatments at the center each year, the news source reports.

People who take advantage of these free treatments will be able to receive services similar to the services provided at the institute's other New York-based locations, including dental exams, bridges, crowns, dental surgery and gum therapy, according to the institute's website. Clinic workers will also inform patients about dental care education and preventative tasks that can be done at home.

While new free dental clinics are continuously being built to help people in underserved areas, families and individuals with little or no dental insurance can benefit from researching discount dental plans. These programs allow patients to receive more treatments, including annual dental exams, teeth cleanings, x-rays and urgent dental procedures.
