In an effort to expand dental care to a larger number of service men and woman, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington D.C. has partnered with other local health organizations to open a new clinic in southern Maryland.
The new 12,000 facility will offer, in addition to other services, dental treatment to veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
The clinic's director, Fernando Rivera, told the Maryland Independent that veterans returning from these conflicts are going to start putting a greater strain on services, and that clinics like this would greatly increase the number of people who get help for their problems.
"It's a privilege to be able to serve people who were willing to put their lives on the line so we could have coffee this evening without having to worry about anything," he told the news source. "To that end, we're working hard because there's a lot of good work we can do."
The Veteran's Administration currently offers dental insurance plans, but these types of can help more former soldiers take advantage of these benefits.
