Properly caring for a baby's teeth can be a challenge for new mothers, but a new program enables mothers to receive text messages with tips for improving their newborn's dental health.
The program, which is called Text4Baby and was launched by the Healthy Mothers, Health Babies Coalition, sends periodic text messages with information that is relevant to their baby based on his or her stage of development to mothers who have signed up for the program.
Many of the largest cell phone carriers are providing the text messages free of cost, including Verizon, AT&T and sprint.
Executive director of the coalition, Judy Meehan, said that the program would help new mothers get the information they need to make sure their child's teeth develop properly.
"We believe the power of partnership and community can make an incredible difference in women's and children's lives," said Judy Meehan, executive director of the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition. "Text4baby brings our mission to life and with the help of our partners, we believe we can be a strong catalyst for change."
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry says that baby teeth can be very important to a child's development, because they help the child learn to chew and speak properly.
