Limited access to dental care can be a major problem for those without dental insurance, but one Pennsylvania organization is working with lawmakers to make dental services more available.
The new president of the Pennsylvania Dental Association, William Spruil, said that recent actions taken by the state's General Assembly would help more people get the care they need, but more action is still needed to insure that everyone is covered.
Spruil pointed to a bill being considered by state lawmakers to require insurance companies to pay for anesthesia for children and special needs patients. Spruil said the law would make a wider range of treatments available to more people.
"PDA is working with state lawmakers and other health care organizations to ensure that as many Pennsylvanians as possible have access to quality oral health care," he said. "Good oral health is vital in a person's overall well being."
Spruil said his group is also working to get passed separate legislation that would help dentists repay their student loans, and require higher levels of fluoridation in drinking water.
