For some people, scheduling a trip to the dentist office for regular dental care can add unwanted stress and, in the worst cases, be the product of a serious condition.
However, new research has emerged that suggests the Chinese treatment of acupuncture may help those who fear getting their teeth cleaned, despite the benefits the appointment can have on one's dental health.
Dr. Palle Rosted, from the department of oncology at Weston Park Hospital in England, led a study that found that patients who were given the acupuncture treatments stated their anxiety over a dental care visit dropped dramatically.
"From a scientific point of view, we demonstrated that 70 percent of patients had an effect of the treatment," said Rosted. "From a practical point of view, and that is the important thing, we demonstrated that it was possible to carry out the planned dental treatment in all patients."
If implemented, this may help those who feel anxious about a regular dental checkup, as well as improve these patients' health. Numerous studies have shown that poor dental health can lead to a variety of conditions if left untreated.
