New Hampshire clinic receives grant to provide dental care to the underserved Officials with the Families First Health and Support Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, have recently announced that the clinic is one of five organizations to receive a $20,000 grant from Tom's of Maine, a dental care product manufacturer.

Families First was one of 16 nonprofit clinics to be nominated by the company, and was awarded the grant based on a video that was posted on Tom's of Maine's website, which showcased the contributions that the healthcare provider offers to the local community.

With the funding, Families First will help support a mobile dental team, which will provide care to those unable to make their way to the clinic's Portsmouth location, according to SeacoastOnline.com.

"We won through the perseverance and loyalty of the people who voted for us," said Margie Wachtel, communications director for the clinic. She added that other local nonprofits helped lead the push to secure the grant.

"The people who do the same kind of work as we do helped us out a lot," she said. "They realized that even if (the grant) doesn't directly benefit them, it benefits the whole community."
