On Wednesday, the Trinity Surgery Center in San Antonio broke ground on a state-of-the-art surgery facility that will provide dental care to special needs patients.
The partners in the project developed the center to cater to people who cannot be served at a conventional dentist's office due to various conditions, such as Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and dental phobia.
The 6,500 square foot facility will be staffed with registered nurses and physician anesthesiologists and will be equipped with sterile operating rooms and special post-op beds. This setup will allow the center to provide dental care to patients who would normally have to go to a hospital.
"This center has been my dream for years and in the planning for the last two years," said founding partner Henry Chu. "It will combine the safety of a state licensed and fully-equipped surgical center with the comfort and convenience of a traditional dental office."
Chu and his partners are planning on opening the facility to the public this summer.
Families who are searching for ways to save money on dental care may want to consider discount dental plans.
