This February, during National Children's Dental Health Month, Dr Kim Loos of San Jose, California will be traveling around the local area to deliver educational presentations to elementary school students about the importance of proper dental health.
Loos will teach children correct tooth brushing techniques as well as explain how cavities form and how they can be prevented. She also hopes to get children more comfortable with going to the dentist's office by showing a fun, instructional cartoon video that clarifies the process and helps instill quality oral health habits.
"Many adults I treat talk about bad experiences at the dentist when they were children," said Loos. "This can lead to fear of the dentist in adulthood. I thought that going to the schools could help cultivate a positive attitude about the dentist."
Loos plans on visiting several schools in the San Jose area including the Lowell, De Vargas and Carlton Elementary schools.
The American Dental Association recommends brushing twice a day, flossing daily, eating a balanced diet and visiting your dentist regularly to maintain optimal dental health.
