Tooth decay is a common problem in the U.S., especially among young children, so some dental care professionals have decided to help educate kids on the risks of not maintaining good dental health.
On November 18, a dentist went to Beckley, West Virginia, to visit the students of Independence Middle School, according to CBS. Dr Ed Eckley taught these children about the Dental Dos and Don'ts.
"Not all children, unfortunately, see a dentist or at their home have a parent or anyone to instruct them on proper oral hygiene and how to floss and brush at least twice a day," school nurse Angie Foster told the news source. "So we thought it was important to bring them here and teach them that."
The Mayo Clinic says that cavities can be a consequence of poor teeth cleaning habits or eating and drinking sugary snacks and sodas. Untreated cavities can lead to tooth loss, but can be avoided by brushing twice a day and flossing in the evening. Regular dental checkups can help prevent tooth decay too.
