Dental care can be expensive, especially for those who do not have access to dental insurance. This leaves some people relying on special clinics set up by compassionate dentists.
Dr Douglas Roth, a dentist with a practice is Florida, recently saw more than 120 patients and treated them with free dental care, the St. Petersburg Times reports. According to his wife, a television program Roth saw last year about free dental clinics in South America reportedly inspired the dentist.
"With the economy the way it is, we felt there's a real need to offer this to people that don't have the means to get dental care," Sandy Roth told the news provider.
Bruce Wilkey, 28, told the Times that his abscessed molar had been hurting for weeks, that Roth's day of free dental care was a "godsend" and that it was "tough coming up with the money these days [for dental care.]"
Though helpful, free dental clinics are not a good substitute for regular dental checkups.
The American Dental Association recommends brushing twice a day, flossing daily, eating a balanced diet and visiting your dentist regularly to maintain optimal dental health.
