Some adults who decide to fix their crooked teeth through dental care have found that the appearance of their new teeth can be an overwhelming experience.
Melissa Lockhart, 28, endured dental braces for more than two years in an effort to fix her crooked teeth and overbite, the Daily Gleaner reported.
When the braces finally did come off, Lockhart reportedly cried.
"When you look in the mirror for 30 years and you look like one person and two-and-a-half-years later you look like somebody completely different, it's an adjustment," Lockhart said.
Dr Gerald Zeit told the news provider that more adults are coming into his practice looking to get dental care on their crooked teeth.
"It's actually quite exciting," Zeit said. "The older patients who do come in and have treatment are a lot of fun to work with. They are kind of proud of themselves for having the strength and the will to get this done."
Cosmetic dentistry and teeth whitening are not only forms of dental care, but they can also provide a renewed sense of confidence. Some job seekers have gotten their teeth straightened in an effort to present a better impression during interviewers with a potential employer.
