People who can't afford dental insurance or don't have access to a dentist may want to look into one of the latest trends in dental care: the sonic toothbrush.
Recently the Los Angeles Times looked into this motorized toothbrush to see if it was better at administering teeth cleanings when compared to the traditional plastic toothbrush usually given away free at dentist's offices.
While the traditional tooth brush works fine if used properly, Dr Chris Kammer told the news provider that most people don't use them properly.
Kammer is a founding member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and said sonic toothbrushes, though expensive, may be able to benefit a person's dental health.
"All a person has to do is hold it up to the teeth, and it does the work of plaque removal," Kammer said. "You're just not going to be able to do as good a job with a manual toothbrush."
The catch? A sonic toothbrush is sold for approximately $130.
Poor dental care can lead to periodontal disease, better known as gum disease. In some advanced stages of the condition, it can lead to bleeding gums, chewing problems and the loss of teeth.
