The first real steps toward healthcare reform took place on Wednesday and it includes dental insurance coverage for those who qualify.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus unveiled his much-anticipated plan to change the country's healthcare system and told reporters it incorporated many of the ideas from President Obama.
"My bill is very, very similar to the framework that the president was talking about when he gave his message the other day," said the Democrat from Montana.
One of the elements in the plan is state-based insurance exchanges, CNNmoney.com reports. This means individuals would be allowed to comparison shop for health policies and be offered four levels of coverage.
According to Baucus's bill, all plans would include preventative care, prescription drugs and dental care. The proposal also stated that insurers would not be able to set a limit on the amount of benefits a policyholder receives.
Recently, the New York Times reported that more than 100 million Americans currently go without dental insurance.
However, Baucus's plan was met with stiff GOP opposition, leaving some to question whether or not the bill has a chance at passing in Congress.
