Snoring may not just annoy family members and house guests, it may also increase the risk of various diseases and conditions if not properly treated by a sleep-disorder dentist.
However, when people look to get their condition treated with dental care, one group is urging that those afflicted with the condition take some time to ensure their dentist has the right set of skills.
Dr Laurence Barsh is the president and founder of the organization Snoring Isn't Sexy and says the dentist administering dental care to one's snoring condition should be adequately trained.
"As snoring and sleep apnea can be deleterious to your health, it's imperative that you choose a dentist with the special and necessary qualifications," Barsh said. "This means that the dentist you choose must be able to work closely with your physician to determine an appropriate treatment regimen."
One of the early symptoms of snoring is dry mouth, which is when enough saliva isn't produced. The American Dental Association states that dry mouth can be prevented through teeth cleanings twice a day and daily flossing.
