The American Dental Association (ADA) strongly recommends that parents take their children for a dental checkup before sending the little ones back to school. A recent ADA report goes so far as to highlight the fact that more than half of kids aged between 5 and 9 years have at least one cavity, due to improper or little dental care.
Some parents may not be able to afford to take kids to the dentist, in which case they should research discount dental plans in their area. Other parents shudder at the thought of taking a recalcitrant child to the dentist's office, deeming it to be more trouble than it's worth.
However, one novel program in Ohio aims to get kids excited about going to the dentist, offering tokens for each visit, RDH Magazine reveals. Dubbed "smile tokens," these coins are intended to reward kids for their successful checkups or evidence of attentive dental care.
The news provider explains that kids are then permitted to turn in their tokens for prizes or use them in video game machines.
