Attend to dental health, even if dentist-shy Some people feel scared when they think about going to the dentist for a dental checkup or to have their teeth cleaned. This can be due to a combination of reasons - a few people are worried that the treatments might hurt, others feel vulnerable when seated in the dentist's chair.

However, Akron.com, an Ohio-based news provider explains that one dentist tries to help their patients feel as relaxed as possible in order to encourage them to keep regular appointments.

Dr Kate Raymond offers what she calls sedation dentistry, which temporarily put the patient under so he or she is either unaware or asleep while being treated.

The news provider also explains that Raymond's office is in a peaceful location, near a lake to encourage people to feel calm when they come in for dental checkups.

The American Dental Association advises that sedation dentistry is a safe practice but patients should make sure that their dentist is properly certified.

For example, the ADA says that these techniques can only be administered to those who need them - in this case, individuals with extreme anxiety about visiting the dentist.
