One dentist recently said that he encourages his young patients to chew sugarless gum, as reported in the online news provider The News Star. Dr Matt Turpin feels that it discourages the practice of snacking on sugary foods and stimulates saliva production to decrease bacteria in the mouth.
Now a popular sugar-free gum giant aims to help fight tooth decay, particularly in kids, with a new campaign.
For every packet purchased, Trident will donate five cents to Smiles Across America, a foundation that aims to help children in underprivileged communities t get the dental care they need.
If this serves as inspiration to take your child for his or her annual checkup, look and see which dentists are locally accessible. The American Dental Association advises that parents take children for their first checkups after the initial tooth erupts or after the little one turns one.
Trident's initiative will start on September 1 and run through September 7. President of Oral Health America Beth Truett feels that the collaboration will help "raise public awareness about the importance of oral health and proactively provide education and services to those who need it most."
