Due to rising dental insurance costs and severe cuts in plans, many are finding it more difficult to provide dental care for their families.
Kids in particular need regular check-ups to make sure that their teeth are growing properly and they will not face problems into adulthood.
The ADA recommends a minimum of twice a year.
Fortunately, some programs are offering dental care services to help out struggling families.
Today, one such event was held by the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry as the orthodontic department held brace screenings for patients aged 9 to 16.
The department will offer 60 children free braces depending upon the severity of the child's dental problem and whether or not they can make follow-up appointments and be accompanied by a parent of guardian.
Across the country in West Virginia, a different program aimed to provide free dental care to residents who lacked dental insurance.
The Herald-Mail reports that the Mission of Mercy project wanted to draw attention to the fact that it was difficult for Martinsburg residents to access the dental health clinic - located 90 minutes outside of the town.
