When President Barack Obama signed the $787 billion stimulus package on February 17th, he gave the economy and dental health research a boost.
Dr Lawrence Tabak, who heads the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, recently told dental care researchers of the $100 million dedicated to research of oral health from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, according to the American Dental Association.
"It would be stunning if you and your colleagues don't find appropriate opportunities. There will be many opportunities for the research community. And don't think everyone's going to apply and [you] don't have a chance. If you don't apply, you're not going to get the grant," Tabad told a teleconference audience.
Tabak added the resources from the stimulus package would be spent wisely to support grants, jobs and ongoing discovery projects to benefit the health industry.
"The infusion fund gives the oral health community the opportunity to further evaluate the scientific bases and provide answers to clinically relevant questions on an array of complex oral and general health issues," said Dr. Daniel M. Meyer, ADA senior vice president for science and professional affairs.
