ADA conference discussed national dental care issues
Updated: 2/18/2009 9:00:38 PM

ADA conference discussed national dental care issues At the American Dental Association's annual meeting of president-elects, a group of approximately 50 dental health industry leaders gathered to discuss value of sharing information with different networks.

ADA President-Elect Ron Tankersley hosted the conference, which took place late last month, and said despite the location of dentists, the profession shared the same values.

"The increased availability of information through electronic communications can lead to misunderstandings. In order to increase transparency, it's essential that leadership proactively provides information that members need," Tankersley said at the opening of the meeting.

Dr Peter Balle, president-elect of the Nevada Dental Association, told the ADA he found the ideas of recruiting and retaining dentists into the association a beneficial topic.

"Many societies have been successful in conveying the value of membership to dentists, and I think we could use some of those same techniques in Nevada," Balle said.

Dentists who become members of the ADA will be able to promote dental health by participating in innovative programs like Give Kids a Smile, which strives to grant children who may not have access to dental insurance some much-needed dental care.
