Older adults whose parents may not have been able to afford braces when they were younger are getting the dental care they missed out in, despite being a couple of decades late.
Linda Noone, a 50-year-old from Indianapolis, recently visited her local dentist and got braces attached to her teeth, which will most likely be on there for the next 18 months, the Indianapolis Star reports.
"I've waited so long, it will be well worth it. I've been looking forward to this and saving for years. My two youngest sons had to have braces," Noone told the news provider.
According to some dentists, it's an emerging trend to see adults choosing to get braces later in life. Dr. John Pritchett said adults make up 25 to 30 percent of his practice, according to the article.
Some are doing it to enhance their outward appearance.
"The baby boomers are just very concerned about how they look. They want to fix or improve whatever they can," Bob Bray, president-elect of the American Association of Orthodontists, told the news provider.
