An alternative medicine author will speak at an upcoming health conference and suggest a person's diet may as important to one's dental health as daily teeth cleanings.
Ramiel Nagel's daughter suffered from severe cavities at the age of one and he said he felt frustrated and stressed as he witnessed her teeth decay.
"[It happened] so rapidly that one of them just disintegrated and chipped apart in a matter of about two weeks time," Nagel said.
At the same time, Nagel himself was suffering from four cavities, which he said convinced him to find new ways to improve the dental care for him and his daughter. This led the author to a nutritional program that included soy and raw milk.
Since incorporating the diet three years ago, Nagel and his daughter no longer have tooth sensitivity, tooth pain, tooth infection or tooth chipping. Nagel will be sharing his dental health story at the Freedom Law School's 2009 Health & Freedom Conference in March.
In terms of a diet, the American Dental Association has warned people to avoid foods with high sugar content to maintain their dental health.
