A toothpaste manufacturer has created a new product combining calcium and fluoride to give people twice the amount of dental care with one thorough brushing.
Indiana Nanotech made the announcement yesterday stating the new toothpaste will combat tooth decay in one action instead of people brushing their teeth first and then reaching for the fluoride to rinse their mouth.
The new product comes less than a year after the manufacturer received a grant of approximately $768,000 from Indian's 21st Century Research and Technology Fund, which is aimed at assisting more developments in dental technology.
"Furthering the benefits of fluoride by combining fluoride-compatible calcium in a widely accepted and familiar format like a toothpaste may provide significant benefits to high-risk caries patients," Rob Karlinsey, Indiana Nanotech's chief executive officer, said.
Dental caries are one of the most common chronic diseases for children and adults, according to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. If not treated, a person's dental health can worsen and open the door for other conditions such as heart disease.
