A consumer survey has found approximately six million people, age 25 years or older, defer the dental care they need.
The at-risk consumers were either people lacking dental insurance or those who put off dental care within the past 12 months, DentalEconomics.com reports.
People with no dental insurance were profiled as having an annual household income of less than $35,000, possessing a high school education or less and being unemployed, according to the website. The report also stated people who were older than 65 years or between the ages of 25 and 34 were more likely to not have dental insurance.
Consumers covered by an employer's dental insurance plan were more likely to get regular dental care with 83 percent reporting they visited the dentist twice or more a year, according to the article. This is compared to the approximately 63 percent who pay out-of-pocket fees to maintain their dental health.
People searching for ways to save money on dental care may want to consider discount dental plans. Discount dental plans, an alternative to dental insurance, allow individuals and families to save 10 to 60 percent on most dental procedures.
