While a mouth full of braces may be fun for children to showcase, adults living with crooked teeth may opt for a more subtle dental care approach to align their teeth.
One possible solution for older patients may be Invisalign, a system of clear retainers that can straighten teeth without using braces, HattiesburgAmerican.com reports.
Dr Christy Dryden Head, a Missouri orthodontist, said Invisalign is available for patients who meet a certain criteria and when other treatments may not be preferable, according to the article.
"It can be used as an alternative to headgear. It can also be used in older adults who need some adjustment in the lower mouth or arch and cannot have braces," Head told the news provider.
Head also said there is no age limit to aligning one's teeth with either braces or the Invisalign retainers.
Orthopedic treatment is used to correct a bad bite, crowded or irregularly spaced teeth and jaw problems, according to the American Dental Association.
While the treatment can produce a better-looking smile for the patient, it can also improve dental health since crooked or crowded teeth are harder to clean.
