A 15-year-old girl from Cleveland almost went to her homecoming dance with her two front teeth knocked out, forcing her to hide her smile, states the Plain Dealer Reporter. That was until a dentist offered dental care just in time.
It was all thanks to dentist Jim Anderson who provided Marquissa Mooring with dental care through a special health program at the Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland, according to the article. Mooring was all smiles at the dance and was able to show off her new smile to her friends.
"I love Dr Anderson. He is probably one of the nicest people I've ever met," Mooring told the news provider.
Anderson joined the club last year and created a health committee, which screened approximately 250 kids for dental health problems, states the Plain Dealer. Of that number, the dentist provided dental care to about 120 of the children.
Poor dental health remains one of the most common chronic conditions for children in the U.S. By age 19, approximately 68 percent of youth will have experienced tooth decay in their permanent teeth, according to the CDC.
