Utah dentists help bridge the dental care divide

Utah dentists help bridge the dental care divide The high cost of dental care and problems with insurance may lead some people to opt out of visiting a dentist - but some Utah dental professionals are happy to help bridge the divide.

Starr Stratford of Community Health Connection in Utah County told KLS.com about the group's plan to bring dentists to residents who are unable to afford dental care.

Problems with dental insurance coverage and economic troubles have made dental health more difficult to maintain, she explained.

"With insurance the way it is, with the economy the way it is, [the need for these services] is just going to grow," Stratford told the news provider.

As part of the program, dentists and dental hygienists perform dental checkups, fill cavities and carry out root canals.

"A lot of these people have been suffering for a while," Stratford said.

In addition to offering their dental care services free of charge, some of the participating dentists donated what they would have earned to charity.

Discount dental plans are another option for people who need to save money on dental care. These plans provide discounts of between 10 and 60 percent on most dental procedures.
