Dental health is an issue that affects all ages, from the youngest to the oldest. However, not everyone realizes how vital it is to introduce children to a dentist at an early age.
Wee Smiles Week, held in various counties in North Carolina in early October, aims to help demonstrate that you are never too young to practice good dental hygiene habits, the Sun Journal reports.
As part of the event, a mobile clinic is open every day, giving kids the chance to receive a dental checkup from a dentist and her assistants.
The children also receive teeth cleanings and a fluoride treatment, while their parents are given educational material on how to prevent decay and other dental problems.
Teresa Ellen, nursing director for Craven County Health Department, told the publication that the clinic provides a good opportunity to show kids that a trip to the dentist is not frightening.
"When children do get their teeth cleaned, they leave with a toothbrush, a sticker and a smile on their face," she added.
October is also National Dental Hygiene month, an ideal opportunity to celebrate dental health.
